Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand Lecturer in Biostatistics (Permanent)

The Wits School of Public Health (Wits SPH) is one of the largest Schools of Public Health in South Africa, with an international reputation for its teaching programmes, conducting high quality and relevant research, community outreach, and policy engagement activities. The School provides biostatistical teaching and support in the form of consultations and short courses to the Faculty of Health Sciences staff and post‑graduate students.

The School is host to three South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN) nodes – custodians of high‑quality research data.

The School wishes to recruit a Lecturer in Biostatistics to contribute to teaching in its postgraduate programmes and short courses, student supervision, and research within the School, the Faculty, and its affiliate research units.

At least a Master’s degree in biostatistics or statistics.

A PhD will be an added advantage.

• Evidence of biostatistics teaching experience at postgraduate level.
• Publication of at least one research paper in an internationally accredited peer‑reviewed journal.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic multi‑disciplinary team.
• Interest in and commitment to building research capacity.
• Postgraduate student supervision will be an added advantage.

• Teach biostatistics in the postgraduate (MSc, MPH, MMed, PhD) and short‑course programmes within the Wits SPH and Faculty of Health Sciences.
• Provide statistical consultations to academic staff and postgraduate students in the faculty of health sciences.
• Co‑ordinate biostatistics modules within the MSc programme.
• Contribute to research supervision of postgraduate students within Wits SPH.
• Actively develop and support research programmes within the School and affiliate SAPRIN Nodes such as Agincourt.
• Assist with biostatistics teaching for the BHSc.

The remuneration package offered will depend on qualifications and experience and is subject to the University of the Witwatersrand criteria.
