Job Description Summary

The On-Site Service Specialist will have technical knowledge and experience working with GE / Alstom generators.

He / she is responsible for the on-site maintenance of major rotating equipment components.

This position requires % travel both domestically and globally.

All on site life extensions, repairs and inspection-related service activities able to be performed at customer site includes onsite winding, critical welding, generator diagnostics.

Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy / strategy.

May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.

Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work.

Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework.

Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures.

Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions / parameters.

A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team.

For customer-facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE.

Explains technical information to others.

Diploma or certificate in Electromechanics, Mechanics, or Mechatronics issued by an educational institution recognized by the Ministry of Education.

Registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Technician.

5-7 years experience with winding and / or experience with generator disassembly, repair and assembly.

Knowledge of the office package (Excel, Word, Power Point, Internet).

Valid National Driver's License (B).

Willingness and ability to travel for work globally on short notice and for extended periods of time, including weekends and holidays.

Experience in Alstom or GE generators.

Initiative, teamwork, concentration and good communication.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Valid passport.

Permitted to work in all power plants in South Africa.

Analytical ability and accessory suggestion.

Experience in field service or maintenance.
