Engineering Manager position available in Johannesburg.

Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the design and development of custom battery packs and energy solutions.

You will manage their R&D and Drawing departments, ensuring innovation, quality, and compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards.

This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on driving product performance, supporting production, and guiding projects from concept to completion within the fast‑growing energy technology sector.

Location:

Isando, Gauteng

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in engineering management or product development.
  • Proven background in battery systems, electronics, or R&D environments.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards.
  • Hands‑on experience with electrochemistry and Li‑ion battery technologies.
  • Proficiency in engineering design and documentation software (e.g. Solid Works, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within time and budget.
  • Innovative mindset with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Research & Development (R&D) and Drawing departments.
  • Oversee the design, development, and testing of custom battery packs and related products.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
  • Manage the full hardware lifecycle from concept and design through to production.
  • Provide technical and engineering support across all customer products.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and data packs.
  • Collaborate with customers during product trials and provide technical feedback.
  • Support production teams in resolving product and process challenges.
  • Drive innovation in product design to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Prepare technical reports, project updates, and recommendations for strategic improvement.
  • Manage CAPEX budgets, project timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Identify and implement training and development opportunities for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture within the department.
