SENET is seeking an experienced Lead
Materials Handling, Conveyors & Bulk Solids Engineer to support the delivery of complex mining and minerals processing projects. The role is responsible for the engineering design, review, and execution of materials handling systems including conveyors, bulk solids handling, stockyards, and associated equipment across all project phases.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, cost-effective, and technically sound solutions aligned with SENET’s engineering standards and client requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and engineer materials handling systems including:
  • Overland and in-plant conveyor systems
  • Transfer stations, chutes, feeders, bins, hoppers, and stockyards
  • Bulk solids handling equipment and layouts
  • Chute and rock flow DEM’s
  • Perform calculations and sizing for conveyors, drives, belt selection, power requirements, and material flow
  • Develop and review:
  • Layout drawings and general arrangements
  • Equipment datasheets and technical specifications
  • Mechanical design philosophies and scopes of work
Project Execution
  • Support projects across study, pre-feasibility, feasibility, basic engineering, and detailed design phases
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, and constructability reviews
  • Assist with cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessments related to materials handling scopes
  • Support site activities where required, including inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting
Standards, Safety & Quality
  • Ensure designs comply with:
  • SENET engineering standards and procedures
  • Applicable international and local codes (ISO, DIN, CEMA, SANS, etc.)
  • Client specifications and safety requirements
  • Promote safe design principles and sustainability considerations
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients in a professional and solutions-driven manner
MINIMUM EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • BEng / BSc / BTech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional registration (ECSA – PrEng / Pr Tech Eng )

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in materials handling, conveyors, and bulk solids engineering
  • Proven experience within the mining and minerals processing environment
  • Experience working on EPCM / EPC projects is strongly preferred
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (TRAVEL, LANGUAGE, MEDICAL):
  • Medically fit and willing to travel locally and internationally.
  • Familiarity with SENET’s procedures, BTDs, and intranet documentation.
  • Flexibility to assist across departments as required.
