Job Profile Summary

ERM is seeking a passionate and motivated Managing Consultant to join our rapidly growing Capital Project Delivery team. This position can be based in any of ERM’s offices in South Africa, Mozambique (Maputo), or Kenya (Nairobi). The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical capital projects across Africa for some of the world’s leading organizations.

This role requires proven experience in delivering Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. Candidates should have a strong understanding of lenders’ environmental and social requirements, including the IFC Performance Standards and the Equator Principles. Experience in conducting ESIA gap analyses and lenders’ E&S due diligence assessments will be highly advantageous.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead or coordinate projects and major components of multidisciplinary assignments, collaborating with regional and global teams.
  • Manage multiple project tasks, including proposal development and client deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through high-quality project delivery.
  • Apply sector and client knowledge to develop impactful solutions for Environmental and Social Governance challenges.
  • Supervise subcontractors during fieldwork, ensuring compliance with ERM’s Health & Safety and Anti‑Bribery policies.
  • Share expertise within the team and global technical communities, contributing to ERM’s knowledge base.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and integrate best practices into project work.
  • Ensure adherence to ERM and client governance requirements.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or Environmental Engineering (Honours/Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in environmental impact assessment or related fields.
  • Proven experience applying lenders’ E&S requirements (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles).
  • EAPASA registration (or in progress) advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering consulting services and managing client relationships.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
