About the Role
Our client, a well-established player in the water treatment and OEM sector, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to take responsibility for the design, execution, and management of mechanical engineering projects. Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, this role will play a key part in leading design initiatives, managing project budgets, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring successful delivery within scope, cost, and schedule.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the design and execution of piping, pump, structural, and plant component systems
• Develop and review detailed mechanical designs, calculations, and technical documentation
• Perform advanced analysis including CFD modelling and validation of engineering models
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and the drawing office
• Manage project budgets for equipment and materials in line with approved proposals
• Oversee prototype development and testing where required
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and safety regulations
• Manage quality control processes and oversee quality data packs
• Liaise with internal departments, suppliers, contractors, and clients
• Attend client meetings, present technical input, and provide project updates
• Analyze operational data and compile detailed engineering reports
• Support commissioning activities and provide on-site troubleshooting, including underground work where required
• Ensure compliance with SHEQ Integrated Management Systems (IMS)

What you’ll need

• BEng / BTech / BSc in Mechanical Engineering (completed)
• 4 – 8 years’ proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer within mining, water treatment, or OEM environments
• Strong design experience in plant, piping, and structural systems
• Advanced computer skills (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant engineering design software)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership ability
• Commercial awareness with budget management experience
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Own vehicle and valid driver’s license
• Willingness to travel and work underground when required
• South African citizen with valid SA
