Lead Engineer (Mining and Projects)
A leading mining company based in Brakpan, Gauteng is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer (Mining and Projects) to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary engineering projects across the mining and mineral processing environment, overseeing studies, detailed engineering, project execution and commissioning while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with company and statutory requirements.
The role requires a strong technical background, exceptional leadership abilities and extensive experience managing EPCM and capital projects within the mining sector.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in mining, EPCM or heavy industrial engineering projects.
- Bachelor's Degree (BEng/BSc) in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering.
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) will be advantageous.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on large-scale mining capital projects.
- Strong knowledge of feasibility studies, detailed engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
- Experience with in mineral processing plants, smelters, concentrators or mining infrastructure projects.
- Sound knowledge of project management methodologies, engineering standards and statutory requirements.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants and engineering service providers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project scope, budgets, schedules and project risks.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
- Willingness to travel to mining operations and project sites when required.

- Manage engineering studies from concept through pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design and project execution.
- Oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, piping and instrumentation engineering disciplines.
- Review engineering designs, technical documentation and project deliverables to ensure quality and compliance.
- Manage engineering consultants, contractors and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Drive project execution while monitoring progress, costs, risks and overall project performance.
- Lead technical reviews, project meetings and stakeholder engagements with internal and external parties.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with health, safety, environmental and quality management systems.
- Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to minimise schedule and cost impacts.
- Support procurement activities, equipment selection and contract administration.
- Provide technical leadership during construction, commissioning, plant start-up and project handover.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and operational stakeholders.
