Tangent International is seeking a skilled 4G/5G Wireless Back Office Engineer to support the delivery, integration, operations, and troubleshooting of mobile network infrastructure in Johannesburg, South Africa. This role is ideal for telecommunications professionals with strong RAN, microwave, and network operations experience who can contribute to maintaining and optimizing high-performing wireless networks in a fast-paced operational environment.

As a Wireless Back Office Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting 4G and 5G network deployment, integration, optimization, and operational activities. Working closely with RAN, transmission, NOC, and technical support teams, you will be responsible for diagnosing network issues, analyzing performance, supporting KPI improvements, and ensuring network stability. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in wireless technologies, microwave transmission systems, TCP/IP networking, and Linux-based systems.

You will participate in troubleshooting complex network issues, extracting and analyzing logs, and supporting ongoing network modernization and performance improvement initiatives. • Support the deployment, integration, and maintenance of 4G and 5G wireless network infrastructure.
• Monitor network performance and investigate service-impacting alarms, incidents, and faults.
• Perform KPI analysis and troubleshoot radio access network performance issues.
• Extract, analyze, and interpret network logs to identify and resolve technical problems.
• Support BO/TAC/NOC operational activities and provide technical escalation support.
• Assist in microwave transmission monitoring, fault diagnosis, and basic maintenance activities.
• Conduct packet capture and protocol analysis using tools such as Wireshark.
• Collaborate with RAN, transmission, and operations teams to ensure network availability and service quality.
• Produce technical reports, root cause analyses, and implementation documentation.
• Contribute to network optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.

• 3-5+ years of experience in wireless telecommunications environments.
• Strong experience supporting 4G and/or 5G network delivery, integration, operations, or optimization.
• Experience working within Back Office (BO), Technical Assistance Center (TAC), or Network Operations Center (NOC) environments.
• Solid understanding of 4G/5G RAN architecture, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of wireless network KPIs and performance analysis methodologies.
• Fundamental knowledge of microwave (MW) transmission systems and link management.
• Strong Linux administration skills, including log extraction, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in TCP/IP fundamentals, routing, switching, and general networking concepts.
• Hands‑on experience with packet analysis and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively within fast‑paced operational and project environments.

• Experience with major telecom vendors such as Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, or ZTE.
• Knowledge of LTE and 5G Core network concepts.
• Experience with network performance management and OSS platforms.
• Exposure to scripting and automation tools for operational efficiency.
• Understanding of end‑to‑end mobile network architecture and service assurance processes.
