This role is based in144 Oxford Road with regular visits to the operations within Valterra’s portfolio.
The purpose of this position is to provide geotechnical specialist support across Valterra Platinum’s varied operations, projects, commodities and mining methods.
- Assist with and provide input to Geotechnical reviews of operations and capital investments;
- May be required to assume a site role for short periods of time if required;
- Participate in ground related incident investigations and reviews;
- Act in an operational/project role on a short-term basis as required;
- Participate and actively contribute to geotechnical related assurance reviews to maintain a high level of technical standard across the company;
- Collection and analysis of structural and rock mass data;
- Coordinate and assist with trials and implementation of new products/technologies;
- Undertake technical modelling and specialised geotechnical design work to assist the operations or new capital investments;
- Structured reading, skills and numerical modelling development;
- Life of mine strategic geotechnical work.
- Minimum 4 years working experience as a certificated Rock Engineer
- Bachelors degree in mining engineering:
- Geology, Rock Mech or other relevant discipline.
- Chamber of Mines / Minerals Council Rock Engineering Certificate of Competence
- Advanced Rock Engineering Certificate (Desirable)
- Honours / Masters in relevant discipline
- Registration with a professional recognised body (SAIMM, ECSA, SANIRE, SACNASP)
- Demonstrated application of academic qualifications through experience working in the field in a variety of relevant positions.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of narrow tabular, bord and pillar, massive and open pit mining is essential.
- Ability to conduct geotechnical risk assessments, including evaluating slope failure modes, rock bursts, and groundwater-related risks.
