Technical Head of Maintenance | National Portfolio

Our client is a well-established, nationally recognised organisation operating an extensive portfolio of customer-facing facilities across Southern Africa. With a strong focus on asset longevity, operational excellence and consistent service delivery, the business is committed to strengthening its technical maintenance function as part of a broader leadership and succession strategy.

As Technical Head of Maintenance, you will lead the national maintenance and engineering strategy across a complex, multi-site portfolio. You will provide strategic direction to Regional Facilities Managers and technical teams, ensuring the effective delivery of preventative and reactive maintenance across critical building infrastructure, including HVAC, cooling, electrical, plumbing and other engineering systems. The role will oversee maintenance budgets, asset reliability, technical standards, compliance, contractor performance and cost optimisation, while providing technical input into refurbishments, capital projects and major equipment initiatives.

Ideally based in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria-based candidates will also be considered, with regular travel required across South Africa and neighbouring countries.

The ideal candidate will bring senior strategic leadership experience within a national, multi-site maintenance or engineering environment, supported by strong technical knowledge of building services and infrastructure. A relevant NQF Level 7+ qualification in engineering, facilities management, construction, project management or a related technical discipline is essential. You will have experience leading geographically dispersed technical teams, managing significant maintenance budgets and developing long-term asset and maintenance strategies.

Strong commercial judgement, stakeholder management, technical problem-solving and the ability to influence at executive level will be key to success.
