Safety Chemical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Safety Chemical Engineer to champion process safety initiatives at their facility in Randburg . This critical role involves assessing and mitigating risks associated with chemical processes, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, and promoting a robust safety culture. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and EHS teams to develop and implement safety protocols, conduct hazard analyses, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

This position is essential for maintaining a safe working environment and preventing incidents.

• Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies.
• Develop and implement safety procedures and management systems (e.g., PSM).
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international safety regulations and standards.
• Provide safety training and guidance to engineering and operational personnel.
• Review engineering designs for safety compliance and risk reduction.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on process safety management in the chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, What-If).
• Familiarity with safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, COMAH).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and training abilities.
