About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Mine Planning Engineer specializing in open pit operations to join their team in the Randburg area. This role is essential for developing and optimizing short, medium, and long-term mine plans to ensure efficient resource extraction and maximize profitability. You will work closely with geological and operational teams to translate resource models into practical, safe, and economically viable mining sequences.

This position offers a significant opportunity to influence strategic planning in a dynamic mining environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize short, medium, and long-term open pit mine plans using specialized software.
  • Conduct pit design, sequencing, and scheduling to maximize resource recovery and minimize waste.
  • Collaborate with geologists to integrate resource models into mine plans and optimize grade control.
  • Work with operations to ensure plans are practical, safe, and achievable, considering equipment capabilities and constraints.
  • Perform economic evaluations of mine plans and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and graphical outputs for mine planning reviews and decision-making.
  • Monitor plan execution and update plans based on geological and operational feedback.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in open pit mine planning and design.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of open pit mining methods, equipment, and operational principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and present technical information clearly.
