Lead Network Architect - 5G Infrastructure

Our client, a major player in the Telecoms industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Network Architect to design and oversee the implementation of advanced 5G network infrastructure in Johannesburg, Gauteng . • Design and develop high-level network architectures for 5G core, RAN, and transport networks, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Define network strategies, roadmaps, and standards, aligning with business objectives and technological advancements.
• Lead the evaluation and selection of network technologies, vendors, and solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to oversee the implementation, integration, and testing of network infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to network engineering teams, mentoring junior staff.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including design diagrams, policies, and procedures.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues and drive resolution, minimizing service disruption.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies (e.g., SDN, NFV, edge computing), and best practices in telecommunications.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in telecommunications network design and architecture, with a significant focus on mobile networks (4G/5G).
• Proven expertise in designing and implementing complex IP networks, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, and firewalls.
• Deep understanding of 5G architecture (NSA/SA), core network functions, RAN technologies, and transport network solutions.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and virtualization technologies (NFV).
• Strong knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE) are a plus.
