Senior Industrial Engineer - Facility Layout & Design

Our client seeks an experienced Senior Industrial Engineer to lead initiatives in Facility Layout & Design . This is a hybrid role based in the vibrant area of Randburg, Gauteng , offering a balance between on-site collaboration and remote analytical work. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing existing facility layouts and designing optimized spaces that improve workflow, material handling, safety, and overall operational efficiency.

This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of manufacturing and distribution processes, material flow principles, and advanced CAD/simulation tools. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and management teams to translate business needs into effective facility designs. Your expertise will be critical in shaping the physical infrastructure that supports our client's strategic growth and operational objectives. This hybrid position allows for hands-on engagement with facilities while leveraging remote capabilities for in-depth analysis and design work, supporting operations across South Africa .

• Analyze current facility layouts, material flow, and operational processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Design optimized facility layouts using advanced CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and simulation tools (e.g., Arena, Any Logic).
• Develop comprehensive material handling strategies, including equipment selection and automation integration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, safety, and maintenance, to ensure designs meet all requirements.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new facility designs or modifications.
• Develop detailed plans, specifications, and cost estimates for facility projects.
• Ensure designs comply with safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
• Oversee the implementation of new layouts and modifications, providing technical support.
• Perform time and motion studies to validate efficiency improvements.
• Present design proposals and project updates to senior management.

• Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial engineering, with a significant focus on facility layout, design, and material handling.
• Proven experience using CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit) and simulation/modeling tools for facility design.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution operations.
• Expertise in material flow analysis, ergonomics, and workplace safety principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex designs to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing on-site and remote responsibilities.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa .
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles is highly desirable.
