Role Purpose/Business Unit
The role of the Senior Administrator:
Data Analyst is responsible for maintaining software systems, with a key focus on Datastage and future expansion to other data platforms.
- Maintaining software systems, with a key focus on Datastage and future expansion to other data platforms.
- Evaluating and testing new software programs with a focus on Datastage and future expansion to other data platforms.
- Optimizing software for speed and scalability.
- Writing and testing code.
- Consulting with other developers, engineers, security specialists, and other stakeholders.
- Presenting new features to stakeholders and internal customers.
- Troubleshooting and resolving application and system issues, developing solutions, documenting correction processes, and ensuring fixes are implemented and monitored.
- Compiling incident reports, conducting incident reviews, and following through to ensure permanent fixes for production problems as part of a collaborative operations effort.
- Interfacing with vendors, Change Management, IT, Customer Care, and other role players to ensure operational changes or incidents are resolved and a solution is implemented.
- Planning and optimizing change controls for system/application upgrades and configuration changes, adhering to Change Control procedures.
- Involvement in acceptance testing and/or application performance testing to ensure a stable production environment.
- Inputting into capacity plans (e.g., stability, performance, storage) to support future growth.
- Ensuring delivery of files/data and reporting systems (service availability) and implementing releases across applications in the environment (IT/IS rollouts).
- Ensuring secure connectivity between Data Stage and source systems, internal and external.
- Onboarding new application users to relevant cybersecurity systems.
- Monitoring Data Stage application and database vulnerabilities.
- Ensuring complete transfer of source data (service management).
- Performing standby duties across applications.
- Skills and Experience
- Grade 12 essential.
- 2-3 years' work experience in IT support.
- Certifications are advantageous.
- A total of at least 2–3 years of relevant work experience, with at least two years in supporting successful delivery of application support (advantageous).
- Excellent collaboration and effective interaction with application development teams.
- Experience working with ETLs and databases (advantageous).
- 1+ year working in an Agile Delivery Team (advantageous).
- Experience in analytics (log file analysis and troubleshooting) and experience managing senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of data warehouse concepts:
Physical database design, Data Transformation, Architecture. - Understanding of data modelling, ETL architecture and design, and ability to evaluate and construct SQL scripts.
- Basic knowledge of telecommunications systems and solutions, and data warehousing utilities, tools and applications (advantageous).
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent teamwork, interpersonal and facilitation skills in a multi-functional environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation abilities.
- Analytical, problem-solving and logical thinking skills; ability to think innovatively and challenge the status quo; ability to present information and argue points.
