DevOps Engineer X2 Level 2 - Isando

Core purpose of the role

The Dev Ops Engineer Level 2 is responsible for implementing and supporting automation, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and monitoring solutions. The role builds on foundational Dev Ops knowledge and provides more autonomy in supporting development and operations teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure platforms. The position balances RUN (system stability), GROW (process optimisation), and TRANSFORM (platform modernisation and innovation) initiatives.

Automation and CI/CD Support

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline build, test, and release processes
• Drive automation to reduce manual interventions and increase efficiency.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Environment Support

• Build and manage environments using IaC tools such as Terraform or Ansible
• Ensure consistent, repeatable infrastructure deployments.

System Monitoring and Incident Response (RUN)

• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions
• Lead troubleshooting of complex issues and coordinate with developers and operations.

Operational Support

• Ensure high availability of services through proactive monitoring and performance tuning
• Provide second-line support for Dev Ops-related incidents.

Collaboration and Enablement

• Work with developers to improve deployment strategies and release management
• Support continuous improvement in agile delivery environments.

Governance and Compliance

• Work with developers to improve deployment strategies and release management

Knowledge Sharing and Documentation

• Actively develop knowledge of Dev Ops tools, cloud platforms, and agile practices
• Document automation processes, scripts, and operational procedures
• Mentor Level 1 Dev Ops Engineers.

Internal and External Stakeholders

The role requires close engagement and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders

Internal Stakeholders

Senior Manager:
Digital Platform, Product and Delivery Owner, Developers (L1-L5), Senior Dev Ops Engineers (L1–L3) and Flow Leads, Enterprise Architecture and Cybersecurity teams.

External Stakeholders

Third-party tool vendors and service providers.

Academic Qualifications

Essential:

• NQF Level 7 Qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
• Certification in cloud or Dev Ops technologies (e.g., Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner)
• Intermediate cloud certification (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Sys Ops Administrator)
• Valid Code 8 Drivers License.

Note: May be required to travel locally and internationally. May be required to work after-hours.

Advantageous:

• Professional certifications in Dev Ops or Cloud (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Associate, etc.)
• ITIL Practitioner certification
• Certification in Agile, SAFe, or Scrum frameworks.

Work Experience

Essential:

• 3-5 Years’ experience in Dev Ops, systems administration, or software delivery roles
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and monitoring tools
• Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS)

Advantageous:

• 2 Years’ Experience designing automated deployments using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi or Bicep)
• Exposure to container orchestration (Kubernetes, Open Shift)
• Hands-on support of production workloads and incident management.
