JOB ROLE 34 CMDB and 3PP Configuration Engineer – Level 2

Mission / Core Purpose of the Job

The CMDB and 3PP Configuration Engineer is responsible for managing the configuration of IT services and third-party products within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role ensures accurate, secure, and compliant configuration data across internal systems and external integrations. The engineer plays a critical role in maintaining service integrity, supporting audits, and enabling efficient change and incident management.

• Maintain and update configuration items (CIs) in the CMDB, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
• Define and enforce CI relationships, attributes, and lifecycle states.
• Collaborate with service owners and infrastructure teams to validate and reconcile configuration data.

• Manage configuration and integration of third-party software and services across environments.
• Ensure third-party configurations align with internal standards and security policies.
• Track and document dependencies, licenses, and support agreements for 3PPs.

• Ensure configuration practices comply with ITIL, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and other relevant standards.
• Support internal and external audits by providing validated configuration data and documentation.
• Monitor configuration drift and implement corrective actions.

• Use tools like Service Now CMDB, BMC Remedy, or similar platforms for configuration management.
• Automate configuration discovery and updates using scripts or integration tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, REST APIs).
• Integrate CMDB with asset management, change management, and monitoring systems.

• Work closely with IT operations, Dev Ops, security, and vendor management teams.
• Provide support for incident and problem management by supplying accurate configuration data.
• Participate in change advisory boards (CABs) and risk assessments.

• 4+ years of experience in configuration management, infrastructure engineering, or IT operations.
• Strong experience with CMDB platforms (e.g., Service Now, BMC Remedy).
• Familiarity with third-party software lifecycle and vendor management.
• Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, Power Shell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
• Familiarity with ITIL framework and service management principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in managing configuration data.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-compliance environment.

• Worked across diverse cultures and geographies.
• Pan Africa multi-cultural experience is advantageous.
• IT operations SLA management.

• 4-year Information Science/ Information Technology/ Computer Science/ Engineering (or related) Degree/Diploma.
• Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification Foundation or Expert v3 / Managing Professional/Master (Preferred).
• Service Now Certified System Administrator.
• Hashi Corp Certified:
  Terraform Associate.
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation.
• Python Institute – PCEP or PCAP.
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
• BMC Remedy Administrator Certification (if applicable).
• CompTIA Server+ or Linux+ (for infrastructure fundamentals).
