Capability Manager

Description

The Capability Manager will lead and manage the end to end capability for data pipelines, API engineering, and intelligent digitisation across FNB. This includes building scalable data ingestion pathways, ensuring robust API ecosystems, and implementing modern AI/ML based solutions that can extract information from images (e.g., payslips, bank statements, IDs) using advanced models and intelligent agents.
The role ensures that FNB leverages automation and intelligent data workflows to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, risk reduction, and decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Capability Leadership & Strategy

Define and execute the capability strategy for data pipelines, APIs, and intelligent digitisation.

Build and maintain a capability roadmap aligned with FNB’s business objectives, architecture principles, and regulatory requirements.

Provide technical mentorship and leadership to squads delivering on the capability.

Data Pipeline Engineering & Governance

Oversee design, development, deployment, and monitoring of automated, scalable, high‑quality data pipelines across cloud and on‑prem environments.

Ensure data quality, lineage, cataloguing, and governance to meet FNB and regulatory standards (e.g., POPIA).

Drive adoption of streaming, near‑real‑time and batch data pipelines using modern tooling.

API Management & Integration

Own the enterprise‑wide API capability including standards, governance, and design principles.

Oversee the development of secure, reusable, well‑documented APIs using FNB’s integration platforms.

Ensure APIs enable ecosystem growth, internal product integration, and customer‑facing digital journeys.

Champion API portal usage, testing frameworks, lifecycle management, and monitoring.

Intelligent Digitisation (Image‑to‑Data + Intelligent Automation)

Lead the design and deployment of AI/ML models and agent‑based systems that extract structured information from images such as:payslips

Implement solutions that use OCR, computer vision, LLMs, and intelligent decision‑making agents to provide contextual answers, validations, and insights.

Ensure robust feedback loops for model improvement, accuracy monitoring, and data privacy controls.

Technical Excellence & Delivery

Define and enforce best practices for cloud engineering, CI/CD, Dev Ops, MLOps, and automated testing.

Collaborate with architecture teams to ensure alignment with FNB’s future‑fit tech stack.

Support agile delivery teams with backlog prioritisation, solution design, and capability enablement.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

Engage cross‑functional teams including Risk, Compliance, Business, Architecture, and Digital Platforms.

Communicate capability value, adoption metrics, and performance improvements to leadership.

Drive training, onboarding and awareness programs for capability consumers.

Risk, Security & Compliance

Ensure strict adherence to POPIA, information security, audit, and regulatory requirements.

Implement secure data movement, encryption, IAM policies, and responsible AI practices.

Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

Strong experience in building and managing large‑scale data pipelines (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Databricks, Azure Data Factory).

Expertise in API standards and technologies (REST, Graph

QL, gRPC).

Knowledge of API management platforms (Apigee, AWS API Gateway, Kong, etc.).

Experience with OCR, computer vision, machine learning, and LLM‑based intelligent agents.

Proficiency with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).

Strong understanding of MLOps and Dev Ops automation.

SQL and No
