Senior Network Engineer

Our client, a leading organisation within the financial services sector, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join their enterprise infrastructure team.

This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of network and firewall operations within a highly available, security-critical environment spanning multiple data centres. The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on experience in Forti Gate firewall administration and Extreme Networks switching infrastructure, playing a pivotal role in ensuring network stability, resilience, and operational excellence across a complex, high-performance financial ecosystem.

Requirements:

• 7+ years' experience in enterprise network engineering.
• Hands-on Forti Gate firewall administration and maintenance (not negotiable).
• Providing experience with Extreme Networks switching environments.
• Strong expertise in routing and switching & firewall rule management and troubleshooting & network security and segmentation.
• Fortinet NSE (or equivalent Forti Gate certification) preferred
• Extreme Networks certification preferred
• CCNP (Enterprise or Security) or equivalent experience preferred
• Experience in financial services, insurance or other regulated environments advantageous
• Exposure to Azure networking concepts advantageous
• Exposure to network monitoring and observability tools advantageous
• Exposure to disaster recovery network design advantageous

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Network Engineering

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data centre network infrastructure.
• Operate and support Extreme Networks switching environments, including:
• Configuration and maintenance of Extreme switches
• VLANs, trunking, STP, and redundancy
• Troubleshooting performance and connectivity issues
• Perform advanced routing and switching, including:
• OSPF and BGP
• High‑availability and failover designs
• Act as Tier‑3 escalation for complex network incidents.

Firewall & Security

Strong Forti Gate experience is mandatory. The successful candidate will have full operational ownership of the firewall estate:

• Configuration, management, and ongoing maintenance of Forti Gate firewalls.
• Firewall policy and rule management, including:
• Rule creation, optimisation, and cleanup
• NAT and security policies
• VPN configuration (site‑to‑site and remote access)
• Monitoring firewall health, logs, and security events.
• Troubleshooting firewall‑related incidents affecting application and user connectivity.
• Supporting security audits and compliance requirements aligned to financial‑services governance.

Wireless & Edge Networking

• Design, deploy, and support enterprise WiFi environments, including high‑density office deployments.
• Secure wireless authentication (WPA2/WPA3, 802.1x).
• Performance tuning and interference troubleshooting.

Operations, Disaster Recovery & Collaboration

• Support data centre and disaster recovery network connectivity, ensuring resilience and failover readiness.
• Participate in planned maintenance windows and after‑hours support where required.
• Collaborate closely with:
• Server and virtualization teams
• Security teams
• External vendors and service providers

Documents & Standards

• Maintain accurate network and firewall documentation, diagrams, and configuration records.
• Enforce network and firewall standards and best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to operational maturity within the infrastructure team.
