Overview
The Deputy Managing Director will play a strategic leadership role in guiding the organization's growth, operational excellence, and business development initiatives. The successful candidate will have strong management experience in engineering-related industries, with a particular understanding of lightning and surge protection systems.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Managing Director in defining and implementing the company's strategic direction.
- Drive business growth through new market development, partnerships, and innovation.
- Oversee organizational performance, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Lead executive decision-making and participate in high-level strategic planning sessions.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the electrical and civil engineering sectors.
- Develop and maintain key client and stakeholder relationships.
- Lead the preparation and execution of tenders, proposals, and major project bids.
- Ensure financial sustainability and contribute to annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Provide leadership and direction to departmental managers, ensuring effective performance and accountability.
- Oversee project delivery at a high level, ensuring adherence to technical standards, timelines and budgets.
- Promote continuous improvement, innovation and quality within operations.
- Apply a sound understanding of lightning protection systems (LPS), earthing, surge protection, resistivity, and reticulation principles.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, preferably IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards.
- Engage with engineering teams to assess and guide the technical aspects of projects as needed.
- Minimum N6 / NQF Level 6 qualification in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
- 5+ years of senior management or executive experience, preferably within an electrical contracting or civil engineering environment.
- Proven experience in business development, strategic planning, and leadership roles.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- High level of business and financial acumen.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships at executive and client levels.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Technically competent with knowledge of LPS, earthing, resistivity, and IEC standards.
- Achievement of business growth and profitability targets.
- Successful execution of strategic initiatives.
- Improvement in operational efficiency and quality standards.
