To provide supervisory leadership to nursing staff in the delivery of safe, high-quality, and holistic care to elderly residents.

• Supervises nursing staff to ensure quality geriatric care
• Allocates duties according to staff scope of practice and residents’ needs
• Ensures holistic care of elderly residents
• Supervises assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
• Ensures residents’ dignity, rights, privacy, and safety
• Oversees safe administration of medication and treatments
• Ensures correct storage, control, and documentation of medication
• Monitors infection prevention and control practices
• Identifies and manages risks (falls, pressure injuries, abuse, neglect)
• Ensures accurate, legal, and confidential documentation
• Supervises use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
• Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and nursing legislation
• Provides guidance, support, and discipline to staff
• Identifies training needs and provides in-service education
• Promotes effective communication and teamwork
• Liaises with families and the multidisciplinary team
• Acts as an advocate for elderly residents

• Registered with SANC as an Enrolled or a Professional Nurse
• Experience in acute care
• Experience in ward management is essential
• Experience in personnel management is essential
• Knowledge and experience in the field of gerontology will be an advantage

• Comprehensive clinical skills to ensure quality nursing care, including wound management and infection control
• Financial control skills
• Strong leadership skills
• Good observation and reporting skills to ensure timeous intervention on identified problems
• Ability to implement and control nursing procedures and nursing documentation
• Commitment to total quality healthcare
• Medication administration
