Job Description

The Security and Access Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and management of physical and electronic security systems within the banking and finance environment. The role ensures appropriate access controls are in place to protect organisational assets, personnel, and information in compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. This position requires close collaboration with various stakeholders to assess security requirements, troubleshoot access issues, and continuously improve security protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • IAM, encryption, masking, approvals.
  • Design, implement and maintain security and access control systems including electronic access control, CCTV, intrusion detection and alarm systems.
  • Manage and monitor access permissions for staff, contractors and visitors to ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of security infrastructure and access points.
  • Respond promptly to security breaches, access issues and system faults, coordinating resolution and reporting findings.
  • Collaborate with IT and facilities teams to integrate security systems and ensure seamless operation across platforms.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of security system configurations, access logs and incident reports.
  • Provide technical support and training to relevant personnel on security protocols and system usage.
  • Stay informed of emerging security technologies and industry best practises to recommend system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal security standards specific to the banking and finance sector.
Required Qualifications
  • National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Security Management or a related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications in security systems or access control (e.g. Certified Protection Professional, Physical Security Professional) are advantageous.
Experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in security engineering, access control, or related roles within the banking and finance or a highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing electronic security systems and physical access control solutions.
  • Proven track record of working with security infrastructure in a multi-site environment.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Cloud Security, IAM, KMS.
  • Strong knowledge of physical security systems, access control technologies, CCTV, alarm systems, and their integration.
  • Familiarity with security standards and regulations relevant to the banking and finance sector.
  • Ability to analyse security risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to respond swiftly to security incidents.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficient in maintaining detailed security documentation and audit trails.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Competent in the use of relevant security management software and tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional security certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or similar.
  • Knowledge of network security principles and their interaction with physical security systems.
  • Experience working in a contract capacity within the banking and finance sector.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations as they apply to security operations.
Working Conditions
  • This role is based primarily in an office environment within the Johannesburg Metro area with occasional visits to multiple sites as required.
  • The position demands full-time hours with a possibility of overtime or on-call availability to respond to security incidents.
  • The role may involve physical activity such as installing or inspecting security hardware.
  • Compliance with all health and safety policies is mandatory.
