Senior Python Developer

Our client is seeking an experienced Python Software Engineer who enjoys building robust, scalable software rather than developing short‑term scripts or experimental solutions. You'll have at least five years of commercial Python development experience and a passion for writing clean, maintainable, well‑tested code using modern engineering practices.

The successful candidate will have strong software engineering fundamentals, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and be comfortable taking ownership of projects from design through to deployment. You'll thrive in a collaborative environment, working alongside software engineers, data specialists and cloud teams while helping establish engineering best practices across the business.

• Design, develop and enhance production‑grade Python applications and backend services.
• Convert research and prototype solutions into scalable, maintainable production software.
• Improve software quality through clean architecture, automated testing and modern development practices.
• Reduce technical debt by improving code structure, dependency management, tooling and overall maintainability.
• Contribute to system architecture, platform design and engineering standards.
• Work closely with development, cloud, infrastructure and data teams to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
• Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes and development automation.
• Optimise application performance, scalability and reliability across cloud‑based environments.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
• Mentor junior developers and promote Python best practices throughout the organisation.
• Take ownership of projects, managing delivery from initial requirements through to successful implementation.

• 5+ years of commercial Python development experience.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object‑oriented design and clean architecture.
• Experience with automated testing, version control, CI/CD pipelines and code review processes.
• Knowledge of modern Python tooling, dependency management, packaging and code quality frameworks.
• Exposure to Azure cloud services, serverless technologies and cloud‑native development.
• Experience working with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
• Exposure to Databricks, Spark or modern data engineering platforms.
• Familiarity with AI frameworks, machine learning integrations or intelligent automation solutions.
• Experience working with modern development tools including static analysis, linting and type checking.
• Understanding of software design patterns and scalable application architecture.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple technical teams.
• Exposure to Azure Dev Ops and YAML‑based deployment pipelines would be advantageous.
• Interest or experience in Rust or other modern programming languages would be beneficial.
