Software Developer, Backend Developer, Software Engineer

Tradition is currently seeking to appoint a Software Developer to be based in our Johannesburg office.

• Contributing to the development of a real‑time financial derivative pricing platform
• Building and maintaining software components across the application stack
• Working with experienced engineers to design, develop, test, and deploy new features
• Learning how complex pricing and market data models are translated into software solutions
• Writing clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code
• Participating in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions
• Supporting the monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of applications
• Using modern development tools, including AI‑assisted engineering tools, to improve productivity and code quality
• Collaborating with product owners, business analysts, and subject matter experts to understand requirements and deliver solutions

• A minimum of 3 years of software development experience
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
• Knowledge of at least one programming language such as Go, C++, Rust, Java, Python, or C#
• Understanding of software development fundamentals including object‑oriented programming, testing, and version control
• Interest in distributed systems, data processing, and high‑performance applications
• Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn
• Good communication and collaboration skills
• Enthusiasm for working in a fast‑paced engineering environment
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS through academic, personal, or professional projects
• Familiarity with databases, APIs, and modern software development tools
• Interest in financial markets, trading systems, or data‑intensive applications
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, or container technologies such as Docker
• Use of AI‑assisted development tools for coding, testing, or learning
