Build reliable backend systems, ship scalable features, and solve meaningful engineering challenges.

We are looking for a Mid-Level Laravel Engineer to join a Development/Tech Ops team in Johannesburg. This role is suited to a hands-on software engineer with strong PHP and Laravel experience who can take ownership of features, contribute to technical solutions, and help maintain reliable, scalable applications.

You will work across the development lifecycle, building and maintaining backend functionality, APIs, and application features while collaborating with product, design, QA, and Dev Ops teams. You will also contribute to code quality through reviews and support the development of less experienced engineers.

• Build, maintain, and improve web applications using PHP and Laravel
  .

• Develop robust backend functionality and APIs.

• Build production features from development through deployment.

• Contribute to scalable and maintainable application architecture.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the application stack.

• Design, develop, and maintain APIs and integrations.

• Collaborate with frontend and other engineering teams to support effective system integration.

• Ensure backend services reliably support application requirements.

• Work with databases and data-driven application functionality.

• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

• Follow established development and version-control practices.

• Contribute to improving code quality, maintainability, and reliability.

• Support continuous improvement across development workflows.

• Contribute to testing and quality assurance throughout the development lifecycle.

• Work with CI/CD practices to support reliable software delivery.

• Collaborate with QA and Dev Ops teams on releases and deployments.

• Investigate and resolve production issues when required.

• Work closely with product managers, UI/UX designers, developers, QA engineers, and Dev Ops teams.

• Translate business and product requirements into practical technical solutions.

• Contribute to technical discussions and development planning.

• Support and mentor junior developers through collaboration and code reviews.

• Strong professional experience with PHP and Laravel
  .

• Solid understanding of backend web application development.

• Experience building and integrating APIs
  .

• Strong understanding of databases and relational data structures.

• Experience developing and shipping production software.

• Understanding of full-stack development and frontend/backend integration.

• Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.

• Understanding of CI/CD principles and development pipelines.

• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to work effectively across development, QA, Dev Ops, product, and design teams.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to take ownership of development tasks and deliver features effectively.

• Experience with advanced AWS environments.

• Experience working across backend and full-stack development.
