Summary

  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Establish and enforce rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom.
  • Plan daily lessons to meet the needs of all students and assist students needing additional support.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and homework assignments, and communicate all objectives to students.
  • Prepare a teaching outline for the course of study, in accordance with state standards and local curricula guidelines.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and identify gaps in learning.
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and adjust instructional practices.
  • Confer with parents, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavior and academic concerns.
  • Issue reports to inform parents of student progress.
  • Keep attendance and grade records as required by the board of education.
  • Foster cooperative student behavior.
  • Report to the principal any reasonable suspicion that a student’s health or welfare has been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect.
  • Provide detailed plans for substitute teachers including lessons, assignments, student expectations, and emergency procedures (fire drill, lockdown, etc.).
  • Meet assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Attend work regularly and on time.
  • Supervise students at school‐related functions including on and off campus activities.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Comply with board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations.
  • Represent the school and community in a positive manner.
  • Perform other work‐related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid Tennessee teacher’s license with appropriate endorsement.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Meet health and physical requirements.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting objects that exceed 25 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Pushing and/or pulling.
  • Climbing.
  • Stooping and/or kneeling.
  • Reaching.
  • Talking, hearing, seeing.

  • Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity.
  • Adaptability to working with students.
