Job Description Summary

A research specialist A is needed to run experiments investigating the evolution and biology of HIV and SIV. This position will support projects involving the isolation and characterization of HIV-1 and related simian-human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV) chimeras. This individual should understand DNA/RNA extraction cloning and genetic characterization. This individual should also know how to implement and troubleshoot PCR protocols including Single Genome Amplification, next generation sequencing library preparation, sequencing chemistries, and high throughput purification methods.

Molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA purification, PCR, cloning, and western blotting will be used on a daily basis. Cell culture experience also preferred. In addition to the above, the Research Specialist B should be able to plan and execute experiments with limited supervision. This individual should also be able to analyze and interpret the data produced from their experiments.

  • Drive a research project (collect, analyze and interpret data, and present data at group meetings)
  • Help in the general running of the lab, including: ordering, receiving items, and maintaining lab organization
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • In addition to the above responsibilities, Research Specialist B should be able to plan and execute experiments with limited supervision. This individual should also be able to analyze and interpret the data produced from their experiments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Position is contingent upon continued funding.
