Job Description SummaryThe Research Specialist A will support the lab’s efforts to investigate the molecular and structural basis of immune evasion mechanisms utilized by human pathogens without effective vaccines. The primary responsibilities include the expression, purification, and characterization of recombinant proteins — including neutralizing antibodies and viral entry machines — for cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) analysis.
The Research Specialist B will perform the above duties with greater independence and will lead a defined research project. This includes designing experiments, interpreting results, and regularly presenting data to the team.
This is a newly established lab, and the candidate must be prepared to work closely with the Principal Investigator to build a successful research program. Individuals with a background in microbiology and/or immunology are strongly encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities
- Recombinant protein expression and purification.
- Protein biochemical and antigenic assessment
- DNA amplification and cloning, plasmid purification
- Data analysis and presentation
- Laboratory maintenance and upkeep of reagents/materials
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Research Specialist A - Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Research Specialist B - Bachelor of Science in a biological field of study and 1 to 3 years of experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
A strong foundation in the principles of molecular biology and protein biochemistry, as well as proficiency in their routine laboratory techniques, is required. Experience with advanced instrumentation such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and flow cytometry (FACS) is preferred. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, rigorous, and collaborative in their approach to research.
