Overview
Goodwill of Central Iowa is looking for an Accounting Associate to join our mission-focused team, bringing general accounting and accounts payable experience to work within our values of love, kindness, and respect.
Base pay range$20.00/hr - $25.00/hr

The Accounting Associate facilitates accounting processes such as processing accounts payable and performing journal entries. This position also performs invoice coding and approval routing, account reconciliations, weekly payment processing, and overall vendor maintenance.
What you'll do- Coordinates the accounts receivable and accounts payable processes through Goodwill of Central Iowa's values of love, kindness, and respect.
- Processes weekly salvage invoicing for the Retail Operations department.
- Maintains, updates, and enhances billing standard operating procedures.
- Manages accounts payable email inbox and facilitates invoice processing using an AP automation tool.
- Processes supplier invoices, check requests, and expense reimbursements.
- Reconciles and reviews vendor statements; researches and follows up on discrepancies.
- Requests and maintains supplier W-9 information to meet organization and compliance guidelines.
- Manages the annual issuance of 1099s and annual audit preparation activities.
- Performs month-end general ledger entries, including MCO (Managed Care Organization) accrual posting.
- Responsible for resolving questions, inquiries, complaints and/or disputes with Finance departmental customers and organizational points of contact as it relates to accounting matters demonstrating excellent customer service.
- Prepare and maintain spreadsheets and financial reports.
- Assists with daily deposit and cash receipt processing.
- Assist in month-end reporting and closing processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associates degree (2-year degree) or equivalent certification or equivalent experience
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and dependent adult and child abuse background check
- Two years of related experience in processing accounts payable and other accounting transactions, and knowledge of accounting principles
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, deadlines, documentation, and project timelines
- Collaborative across all levels of the organization providing a high level of service
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and accounting software
- Prolonged periods of stationary work at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 5 to 15 pounds occasionally
- Must have visual acuity to determine accuracy of work assigned
