Job Description

Westfield Veterinary Hospital has an opportunity for an Urgent Care Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team! Experienced non‑credentialed assistants are encouraged to apply.
Location: 8789 NW 54th Ave, Johnston, IA 50131 Shift: Every other Saturday and Sunday, 8am‑8pm.
Compensation: $21‑$28 per hour.

  • All‑in‑one professional setting for pet needs ranging from nail trims to advanced diagnostics and surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care under the supervision of a veterinarian (DVM).
  • Maintain clear and accurate medical, client, and case records using appropriate terminology and grammar.
  • Review medical records, treatment estimates, and discharge instructions with clients, and respond to basic animal care inquiries, escalating medical questions to veterinarians as needed.
  • Guide and support medical support staff to ensure efficient shift operations and workflow.
  • Mentor team members to encourage career growth and personal development.
  • Provide input for 360‑degree performance evaluations of employees.
  • Assist with client services including appointment scheduling, payments, check‑in, and courteous phone communication.
  • Provide feedback and suggest improvements to training programs; participate in training sessions, job shadows, and working interviews.
  • Perform assigned cleaning, clinic upkeep, and equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Delegate cleaning or other duties during slow periods when a supervisor is unavailable.
  • Identify and address areas needing additional attention within the clinic environment.
  • Answer client inquiries confidently about routine procedures and animal care.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients to support patient care and hospital operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the nature and level of work.
