The Lead Mammographer oversees and coordinates the work of the radiologic and mammography technologist(s) within the office assigned under the general supervision of the Site Manager, the Manager of Radiologic Technologists, and according to established policies and procedures. Is available for problem resolution and troubleshooting mammography QA at all sites. Interacts with the radiologist, referring physicians, and staff as required. Regularly performs all functions of a technologist.
Lead Mammographers fill in for managers at multiple sites and are backup for management in staff management and coverage.
- Monday-Friday (day shift varies) at our Johnston, RI clinical site
- Full-time, 40 hours/week
- Lead technologists are working supervisors. They may schedule and assign technologist duties within the department to ensure efficient patient flow and the best possible service.
- Support management with staff coverage (call outs, securing shift coverage, performance management) and provide coverage at multiple site locations.
- Take ownership of patient and employee issues; ensure follow-through and problem resolution. Act as a liaison between the technical staff, other staff, and the Site Manager.
- In conjunction with the Site Manager, is responsible for ensuring that adequate supply inventory levels are maintained at all times.
- Responsible for ensuring that quality assurance is consistently performed and accurately documented daily/as required within MQSA standards. Report any problems to the Site Manager. Is a resource to all lead technologists regarding mammography issues. Is responsible for keeping abreast of current federal and state standards.
- Responsible for assisting all sites with mammography ACR accreditation processes and FDA inspections.
- Assist with the orientation and training of new technologists and mammographers and/or radiologic technologist assistants. Responsible for the completion of all related paperwork.
- Monitor the quality of images within the department and review concerns with the Site Manager.
- Participate in and provide input related to performance appraisals with the Site Manager.
- Set the example for professionalism, flexibility, and high levels of patient care.
- Must possess general knowledge of equipment and its location/vendors. Responsible for keeping the Site Manager informed of any equipment problems.
- Additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Demonstrate all skills required of a staff technologist and mammographer.
- Demonstrate all skills necessary to perform mammography QA.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to manage, organize, and motivate staff in a manner that ensures corporate goals and objectives are met.
- Demonstrated ability to handle increased responsibility.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a mammographer
- Must possess two (2) years' experience performing mammography QA under the MQSA Standard.
- Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
- May lift/position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to move patients from scanner tables and transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
- Ability to crouch, reach, and lift to allow appropriate manipulation positioning and placement of ancillary equipment.
- Will have exposure to high magnetic fields and cannot have any physical condition that would be aggravated by magnetic fields, acoustic noise, and occasional RF exposure.
- Ability to work in Zone 3 and Zone 4.
