Diesel Technician

Overview

Ballard Truck Center in Johnston, RI has immediate openings for Diesel Technicians. Ballard is a family-owned business in the full-service commercial trucks industry, recognized for customer satisfaction and decades of service in sales, service, parts, leasing, and rentals.

• Follows workplace and vehicle safety procedures consistently.
• Follows MSDS training and guidelines.
• Perform proper Preventive Maintenance - lube, filters, inspection including truck appearance, interior and exterior, cab, safety, and security.
• Basic electrical work – repair and replace starters, alternators, batteries.
• Inspect and replace basic engine components.
• Diagnose, repair and replace brake systems; perform adjustments.
• Direct/Indirect labor accountability (completing personal paperwork).
• Maintain good housekeeping standards.
• Inspect and replace drive line components; remove and replace transmission and clutch (R&R).
• Utilize diagnostic tools and software; perform engine and system diagnostics.
• Inspect and replace steering and chassis components; basic welding and cutting, fifth wheel service and king pin wear.
• Remove and replace engines; perform related tasks as needed.
• Communicate with internal customers about stances, wait times, repair decisions, and status updates.
• Complete all franchise-mandated training (online and on-site; travel may be required).
• May perform accident repairs on tractors or trailers.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Be able to pass a background check and drug test.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Have at least basic computer skills.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.
• Own necessary basic tools.
