VOCATIONAL SKILLS/TRAINER/MENTOR (SOCIAL CARE)

- Ideal candidates will be able to share practical life skills with a trade, craft, vocational background or area of expertise.
- Provide hands-on vocational skills and learning experiences for young people on a 1:1 basis whilst they work towards independent living.
Catch Head Office, Houston, Renfrewshire (near Glasgow Airport)
WORKING PATTERNMon-Friday 9am-3pm, up to 5 days 30 hours per week. Suitable for part-time and flexible working on a sessional basis.
SALARY£13.45 per hour
About CatchCatch supports care-experienced young adults towards independence through transitional housing, mentoring, and practical vocational learning opportunities.
Our aim is to help young people build confidence, develop practical life and employability skills, and progress towards further education, accredited training, apprenticeships, and employment.
We believe that positive role models and hands-on learning experiences can have a life-changing impact on young people.
The RoleThis is not a traditional social care role.
We are looking for individuals with a practical skill, trade, craft, vocational background, or area of expertise who can share their knowledge and provide hands-on learning experiences for young people on a 1:1 basis.
The purpose of the role is to help young people gain confidence, develop practical abilities, discover their interests, and build the motivation and skills needed to move on to college courses, apprenticeships, accredited training, or employment opportunities.
We are particularly interested in applicants with skills, qualifications, or experience in areas such as:
- Mechanics
- Joinery
- Construction trades
- Plumbing
- Painting & Decorating
- Beauty Therapy
- Hospitality & Catering
- Fitness & Sport
- Music, Art, or Creative Industries
- Digital Skills / Media
- DIY and practical maintenance
- Any other practical, vocational, or employable skill
The successful applicant will deliver practical and engaging sessions tailored to each young person’s stage of readiness, interests, and goals.
No formal teaching qualification is required. However, applicants must be confident demonstrating and teaching their skill in a patient, encouraging, and supportive manner.
The role also involves building positive and trusting relationships, encouraging participation, maintaining professional boundaries, and supporting young people within a safe and structured environment.
Experience with in the care sector is beneficial but is not the main requirement for this role. The primary focus is finding individuals with real-world practical skills and experience who can positively engage and inspire young people.
