Overview
Are you passionate about the great outdoors? Do you enjoy working with kids and helping them explore, challenge themselves, and connect with nature? If so, we want you to join our team as a Program Leader at Camp Elks, our nature-based, outdoor-education camp. Camp Elks offers opportunities for kids to learn outdoor skills like hiking, archery, rock climbing, and swimming, with additional experiences such as horseback riding and exploring local streams, lakes, and reservoirs.
As a Program Leader, you will play a key role in creating a fun, safe, and enriching camp experience for every child.
- Lead and supervise children in small and large group activities, ensuring an engaging and fun camp experience.
- Lead a variety of camp activities, including games, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, team-building exercises, and more.
- Follow YMCA program standards, including safety protocols, cleanliness standards, and emergency procedures.
- Provide leadership and support to Program Aides and Volunteers, ensuring everyone works together to create a positive camp experience.
- Practice positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques, using natural consequences in accordance with YMCA policies and expectations.
- Maintain open, friendly, and professional relationships with staff, parents, campers, and community members. Communicate clearly with your supervisor regarding any issues or needs.
- Assist with maintaining attendance records, participant files, and other documentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other required events.
- Be on time for all shifts and be adaptable to accommodate unexpected schedule changes, including full days if needed.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Previous experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or leadership role is preferred.
- Provide documentation of 480 hours of experience working directly with school-age children (e.g., Sunday school, Scouts, or sports).
- Become certified or supply documentation of current CPR and First Aid certification (can be completed through the YMCA).
- Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable.
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative.
- Comfortable leading a variety of camp activities, including outdoor games, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises.
- Strong communication skills with both children and adults.

Childcare benefits of more than $5000 are considered taxable income and will be processed accordingly. Limitations and restrictions apply to some programs. USD $17.00 - USD $18.00 per hour.
