Position Summary

SILP Tutor-instructors are generally native speakers with experience in language teaching who bring to the classroom a wealth of cultural and linguistic knowledge. Their role is to provide communicative opportunities to the students, and to create a self-guided environment for students to work on their language learning.

Job Duties and

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with students in small group sessions as assigned
  • Reinforce conversational skills through various language pattern drills
  • Drill dialogues and exercises (pre-learned by the students)
  • Correct students' errors
  • Strengthen the comprehension ability of students when practicing conversational drills
  • Be a useful aid to the student in the study of the language
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Native fluency in the language to be taught
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching the language to be taught or prior work experience in an educational environment.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
