Fall 2025 – Summer 2026 – $1106 per contact hour (Bachelor’s/Master’s) or $1161 per contact hour (Ph.D., Ed.D., J.D.)
Position Summary
An adjunct community college instructor is hired for one semester to teach one or more courses for which they are qualified. The instructor reports to the appropriate Instructional Coordinator and/or Department Chair, provides quality instruction for the assigned courses, and works with full-time faculty in assessing students and following all course guidelines. Willingness to teach at other campus sites is required.
Adhering to the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract, the instructor is expected to model professional behavior, support student success, and contribute to a respectful and collaborative learning environment.
Essential Job Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Teach classes in the appropriate instructional area.
- Participate in annual student and chair/coordinator evaluations.
- Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, assessments, and other established processes.
- Attend classes regularly; submit required college reports, credentials, and documentation in a timely manner and communicate effectively with staff and chairs.
- Supervise students performing essential veterinary nursing skills in accordance with AVMA/CVTEA standards, ensuring humane animal handling, safety, and adherence to industry and programmatic standards.
- Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations; report discrepancies to appropriate officials.
- Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college at all times.
- Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
- Teach day and/or evening sections of lecture and lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- Credentialed Veterinary Technician or DVM.
- Three (3) years of clinical experience as a credentialed Veterinary Technician or DVM.
- Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction based on the course outline.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Experience at the community college level.
- Experience with traditional and non‑traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience with PowerPoint.
- Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
- English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence.
Physical Demands
- Standard classroom equipment and software.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work with animals of varying species, sizes, and temperaments.
- Ability to stand, stoop, or kneel for extended periods in a laboratory or clinical setting.
