HIRING RANGE: $70 hourly

Position Summary

Teach introductory and advanced classes in nursing practicum. Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities. Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning. Possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to the assigned course load, and keep informed of current trends in the field of nursing and health care.

Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission. Teach classes during non-traditional times (evenings and weekends) and at clinical and other campus sites as needed. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract. Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Course load of no more than 11 contact hours in appropriate instructional area.
  • Participate in annual student and chair/coordinator evaluations.
  • Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, and assessments, and other established processes.
  • Attend classes regularly; return college reports, credentials, and other requested documentation in a timely manner; effectively communicate with appropriate staff and director.
  • Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations. Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.
  • Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college at all times.
  • Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current Illinois Licensure as R.N. Recent work experience in nursing.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience at the community college level.
  • Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.

  • Standard classroom equipment and software.
  • Standard hospital equipment and software.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Classroom, skills lab, and simulation teaching environment.
  • Clinical/hospital units.
WORKING SCHEDULE
  • Nursing adjuncts are hired on an as-needed basis.
  • These needs are related to student enrollment and can fluctuate from semester to semester.
