Summary:
The Technical Manager – Circuit Breaker Services is responsible for overseeing the testing, repair, and reconditioning of customer circuit breakers while serving as the primary technical resource for internal teams and customers. This role combines hands‑on technical expertise with leadership, customer support, and operational oversight to ensure safe, high‑quality, and compliant circuit breaker services.
The Technical Manager supervises daily shop operations, supports technicians with troubleshooting and repairs, reviews test and inspection documentation, and assists with project quoting by estimating labor and identifying required parts. This position also provides technical guidance to customers, including off‑hour support as needed, and ensures all work complies with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable industry standards.
This role requires a deep understanding of circuit breaker systems across major manufacturers and breaker types, along with the ability to train and mentor technicians, support continuous improvement, and maintain strong communication between the shop, office, and customers.
Role Responsibilities:- Repair & recondition customers' circuit breakers.
- Handle customers’ technical questions, particularly off‑hour questions—24/7.
- Full understanding of circuit breakers and circuit breaker services.
- Supervise and coordinate daily shop operations for testing, repair, and reconditioning. Includes:
- Assign work to technicians, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Help technicians read drawings and answer repair questions/assist with repair.
- Train and mentor technicians on testing procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices.
- Review and approve test reports, inspection results, and repair documentation.
- The technicians will provide part information (part description, photo or picture from IB) with test report. Technical Manager will assist finding the part number.
- Help the office quote projects by estimating labor time, identifying parts required, etc.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA standards, and applicable industry codes.
- Understand how to service all major manufacturers and breaker types, including air, vacuum, and molded case units.
- Engineering degree, military experience, or relevant working experience.
- 10+ years of professional working experience within an industrial circuit breaker setting. Must have strong working knowledge of air, vacuum, and molded case circuit breakers.
- Experience working with low voltage (480V) to medium voltage.
- Experience working with major manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB, Eaton/Cutler‑Hammer, Square D, GE, Westinghouse, and Allis‑Chalmers.
- Ability to read and interpret substation and electrical drawings such as blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, single‑line drawings, AC and DC schematics, panel layouts, etc.
- Ability to test, troubleshoot and repair circuit breakers.
- Strong understanding of electrical testing procedures and equipment used in circuit breaker maintenance and diagnostics.
- Ability to utilize electronic equipment such as multimeter, voltmeter, clamp meter, resistance tester, power quality analyzer, circuit analyzer, protective relay tester, etc.
- Ability to supervise and lead technicians in a repair shop setting.
- Ability to train, mentor, and develop technicians to improve technical capabilities and adhere to safety compliance.
- Ability to accurately complete and review technical documentation, including test reports, inspection records, repair documentation, and service reports in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Ability to support project estimating, including labor forecasting and parts identification.
- Ability to interact with customers and provide a high level of services and technical support.
- Ability to adhere to regulatory requirements and industry standards for electrical equipment ANSI/IEEE/NETA, etc. safety and standards.
