NPD Engineering Manager
The New Product Development (NPD) Engineering Manager leads end-to-end development of innovative products from concept through production, ensuring they meet performance, quality, cost, and schedule goals. This role mentors a multidisciplinary engineering team, driving technical excellence, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration with product management, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
Responsibilities- Manage multi-facility global design teams in a Stage-Gate process.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to complete designs, build test units, and create documentation.
- Allocate resources, delegate tasks, and manage project schedules.
- Develop schedules, coordinate and manage projects of all complexity levels with little to no supervision.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, ensuring departmental designs meet requirements.
- Promote error-proof assembly and lean design/manufacturing processes.
- Deliver innovative designs that meet profit, cost, quality, and time‑to‑market metrics.
- Oversee prototype construction and testing.
- Ensure CAD database and library compliance.
- Review and approve engineering drawings.
- Identify and mitigate project risks.
- Lead test plan creation based on D/PFMEA, ensuring test compliance.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting on products and processes.
- Collaborate with vendors on high‑quality, low‑cost design options.
- Interface with purchasing for component selection and approval.
- Prepare documentation and create/ revise G&W standards.
- Continuously improve engineering processes.
- Participate in industry organizations to stay informed.
- Support Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing on products and processes.
- Consult with Customer representatives on product requirements and specifications.
- Develop direct reports’ skills and performance.
- Rate subordinates’ performance against job requirements.
- Coach, mentor, and influence others in the department.
- Educate and mentor to develop technical skill sets.
- Encourage innovative thought processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years progressive experience in engineering design and/or development.
- Leading highly technical and innovative projects.
- Project management, team management, root‑cause analysis, and computer analysis programs.
- Medium/high voltage electrical power systems.
- Leading and reviewing DFMEA, PFMEA, and PPAP process and documents.
- Leading development projects within a Stage Gate Process.
- Strong technical knowledge in mechanical (molded components, castings, metal fabricated parts) and electrical (current and voltage sensors, power systems, protection).
- Demonstrated ability to write/edit technical documents and test reports.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
- Proven experience with computers;
Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project or equivalentsli> - Preferred: published author and/or industry publications involvement.
