Location: Joliet, IL 60435
Shift: Nights (9:30 pm – 6 am, alternating shifts)

Overview

  • Schedule: 9:30 pm – 6 am, alternating 3 shifts one week and 2 shifts the following week, every other weekend and rotating holidays

Responsibilities

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I primarily perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain a blood specimen for laboratory analysis. Under the supervision of Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor, responsibilities include:

  • Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties
  • Apply knowledge of laboratory test terminology
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors
  • Perform proper phlebotomy technique and use equipment to collect specimens from newborns to geriatric patients
  • Process specimens for microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank
  • Process specimens for referral to reference laboratories
  • Stock routine supplies, maintain cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and work areas
  • Load or process specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation according to established policy and procedures
  • Assist with pick‑up samples at hospital/OR, assist lab specialty in sorting and placing specimens, inventory, replenish supplies, order supplies, faxing, answering phone, product deliveries, etc.
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Current and valid state certification preferred
  • BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience preferred
Pay Transparency

Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package. Estimated wages: $16.00 to $23.17. Full benefits include paid time off, 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many voluntary options.
