Substitute Nutrition Services Driver
Joliet Public Schools District 86

Pay Range: $16.11 /hr – $16.11 /hr (actual pay depends on skills and experience).

Position Details: 9‑month, on‑call as needed. Non‑bargaining, non‑exempt, hourly rate $16.11. The role involves the safe and efficient delivery of food and supplies to district elementary schools, collection of daily cash receipts, and maintenance of unit storage areas and nutrition service vehicles.

Reports to: Nutrition Services Director and Nutrition Services Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduation required.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license; driving records will be reviewed.
  • Minimum one year experience operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Ability to perform physically strenuous duties.
  • Effective communication with district constituencies.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Deliver daily meals to elementary schools according to established route schedules.
  • Transfer meals from mobile transporting units to holding ovens at each school and verify counts.
  • Collect empty food transporting units from each school and return them to the unit at end of day.
  • Collect daily cash receipts from each school and submit to the administrative center business office.
  • Maintain unit storage areas orderly, stocking shelves, rotating stock, issuing from storerooms, freezers, and coolers as required.
  • Pick‑up and deliver supplies from Building Support Service storage facility and central freezer as needed.
  • Ensure nutrition services vehicle is properly maintained (fluid levels, tire pressure) and report required service or repairs.
  • Keep assigned vehicle clean through daily interior and weekly exterior cleaning.
  • Secure vehicle and remove any food service property before turning in keys at the Building Support Service office.
  • Maintain open communication with lunchroom supervisors, building engineers, and custodians.
  • Perform any additional duties, responsibilities, or special projects as directed by the Nutrition Services Unit Lead or Coordinator.

Physical Demands: The role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, climbing, carrying objects, operating foot and hand controls, reaching, and lifting and moving up to fifty (50) pounds. Accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, and oral communication are essential.
