What we need

Symbotic is seeking a highly motivated Manager of Automation Maintenance Operations to lead and manage daily maintenance activities, ensuring optimal performance of our cutting-edge automated systems. You will oversee a dynamic team responsible for maintaining Symbotic’s advanced infrastructure, including automated adapters, vertical lifts, and a fleet of autonomous robotic vehicles. This role supports all mechanical, PLC, electrical, and electronic systems. The Manager role combines leadership with a focus on processes that improve equipment, materials, and overall system performance.

What we do

The Manager of Automation Maintenance Operations is part of the Customer Operations organization, responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. The organization drives operational excellence by engaging with onsite customers to ensure quality, safety, and system performance.

What you'll do

  • Lead and execute Symbotic’s maintenance program by training, delegating, and holding maintenance technicians and leads accountable.
  • Supervise maintenance staff by assigning tasks, managing schedules, and overseeing daily activities.
  • Coach team members and support their professional development and performance growth.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor timely completion of maintenance work orders.
  • Identify and implement initiatives to reduce equipment downtime and improve reliability.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer safety procedures.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and guide effective problem solving.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to maintenance activities.
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships as needed.
  • Purchase materials and supplies to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Maintain organized work areas according to standards.
  • Conduct safety training and regular safety observations.
  • Complete tasks in a timely and organized manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • What you'll need

    • Associate degree or equivalent in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or related field;
      Bachelor’s preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance leadership role.
    • Strong commitment to safety.
    • Skilled in coaching, counseling, and performance feedback.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Proficient with CMMS;
      Maximo experience preferred.
    • Strong electro-mechanical skills for preventive maintenance.
    • Ability to work independently following procedures and manuals.
    • High urgency and task prioritization skills.
    • Open to feedback and professional development.
    • Collaborative team player.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

    Our Environment

    • Ability to work at heights up to 45 feet and in restrictive areas.
    • Subject to environmental conditions, capable of working in temperatures from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
    • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and move items up to 80 lbs.
    • Stand/walk for 10-12 hours.
    • Capable of various physical activities including climbing, crawling, and repetitive movements.

    The base salary range for this position in Joliet, Illinois is $100,000-$120,000, with potential variations based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO, and others.
