Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Rental Manager for our Joliet, IL branch. This role is responsible for the efficient & profitable operation of the branch rental department. This individual will advise and make recommendations to the Operations Manager with respect to the best interest of the branch rental department whenever & wherever activities of the company are involved.

The expected salary range for this role is $70,000‑80,000 per year based on candidate overall experience.

Responsibilities
  • Decision making:
    Analyze machine revenue vs. expense and recommend rental rate structure; analyze driving costs and recommend appropriate changes; analyze various manufacturers’ equipment and recommend suitable new products; record customer requests and recommend additional services; review equipment utilization and recommend inventory adjustments; monitor competitive activity and recommend suitable responses.
  • Supervisory:
    Select and hire personnel; clarify duties and responsibilities of all department employees; motivate employees toward greater productivity; utilize people and equipment resources efficiently; resolve employee complaints; ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety standards.
  • External communications:
    Answer customer questions quickly, clearly and competitively; handle complaints on a timely basis; maintain positive communication with manufacturers and other vendors.
  • Internal communication:
    Provide adequate notice to service department for upcoming machine requirements; provide office personnel with credit/insurance verification reports on time; work with all company personnel to drive profitability; work with sales department on demonstrations and delivery/pickup of new equipment; work with service department on delivery/pickup of customer equipment.
  • Technical knowledge:
    Know rental equipment well; know truck specifications and proper machine & auto maintenance requirements.
  • Difficulties and emergencies:
    Know how to act during a crisis (equipment failure, etc.); cope with unexpected work and workflow requirements; make proper decisions relative to weather and driving conditions.
  • Administrative practices:
    Maintain accurate and current records; verify customer credit and insurance; properly prepare rental information sheets; ensure equipment rented is "rental ready"; follow all policies and procedures of the rental department; obtain permits, licenses and other necessary documents on time; prepare daily driver schedules.
  • Ensure all rental equipment, shop equipment, & delivery vehicles are in safe operating condition and in compliance with all licensing, inspection, OSHA & FHA rules & regulations.
  • Prepare, develop, and execute self/employee & training and product knowledge for all rental department personnel; insure the company meets contract requirements for all unionized employees.
  • Overall responsibility of the entire branch truck fleet; insure all vehicles are maintained properly in good mechanical condition and in compliance with government safety requirements; recommend purchase and maintenance of vehicles and trailers.
  • Make recommendations to Branch Manager for any building/facility issues or upgrades.
  • Develop annual objectives for the branch rental department, including customer service, acceptable inventory levels, acceptable expenses, and revenue goals; prepare an annual budget/business plan.
