Responsibilities
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA Health.
  • Contribute to the company’s mission and vision by utilizing the nursing process in planning, executing, and evaluating the nursing care given to the surgical patient.
  • Float between other ambulatory surgery centers in the Chicagoland Suburbs.
  • Serve as a collaborative consultant and facility advocate; champion a positive work environment.
  • Ability to acclimate to different clinical settings with minimal supervision.
  • Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures, ensuring patient safety by protecting against extraneous objects and harmful sources.
  • Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources.
  • Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and machinery and follow procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
  • Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items.
  • Speak up with safety concerns, acting as the patient’s advocate.
  • Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.
  • Assemble supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
  • Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.
  • Protect the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Maintain a fire-safe environment.
  • Practice and monitor aseptic technique.
  • Comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
  • Maintain radiation safety at all times in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
  • Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Provide hand‑off reports to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care.
