Quality Auditor/Watch & Protect Technician

Grid Hawk LLC () is a premier provider of utility locating and damage prevention services. Our mission is to keep communities safe by preventing damage to underground infrastructure. We provide full‑spectrum outsourced asset damage‑prevention and mitigation services on behalf of utility companies across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Experienced technician who performs quality audits on completed locating tickets and oversees contractors digging around utility facilities. The Watch & Protect technician monitors excavation to help prevent damage to critical infrastructure for a variety of utility clients.

• Perform quality audits of completed work, including inspection of locate marks and marking standards for accuracy
  • Use E‑Sketch documentation, billing and status codes, screen capture and photo documentation review, and scope of ticket work area completed.
• Watch & Protect
  • Compare real‑world conditions to record documentation to identify errors and omissions.
  • Verify location of all client facilities within specified dig extents and watch and protect client facilities as directed by the client.
  • Understand contractor’s methods for subsurface installations and monitor critical excavation.
  • Contact excavators and schedule monitoring of critical infrastructure.
  • Locate and mark underground facilities using industry tools and utilities maps.
  • Perform ticket audits to ensure locators accurately locate facilities and follow proper marking procedures.
• Communicate any serious concerns found during audits to the supervisor immediately and address them while onsite.
• Complete a background check and pass a DOT drug test.

• High school diploma or GED certificate
• Valid driver’s license
• At least 2 years of experience in the locating industry
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organizational skills to handle many tasks at once
• Knowledge of safe worksite practices
• Experience with construction and installation of below‑grade infrastructure and basic maintenance of industry‑standard locating equipment
• Working within and utilizing existing utility standard designs
• Experience with complex urban underground utility infrastructure and serving as firm/client liaison
• Reviewing design drawings created by others

• Capable of moving around on construction work sites, public streets and parkways
• Capable of lifting up to 50–75 lbs
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel or sit for extended periods
• Hand‑eye coordination necessary to operate computers and measurement, locating and testing instruments

• Work safely outside in all weather conditions year‑round
• Occasionally work in excavation areas and roadways
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration
• The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud
