Job DescriptionThe Network Operations Center (NOC) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and performance management of customer IP networks. The NOC serves as an escalation point for unresolved end‑user issues and is the first responder for network outages. The NOC manager ensures uptime and availability of platforms, elements, and services within the network. Operations run 24x7x365.
Responsibilities- Analyze engineering documentation and design for acceptance and take ownership of products/services, including circuit testing using RFC‑2544, Y.1564, or Y.1731.
- Enforce network standards, policies, and procedures such as naming standards, design methodologies, port assignment, and base configuration.
- Understand routing and switching in a service provider network, including VLAN (C‑VLAN and S‑VLAN), MPLS, E‑VPN, ECMP, BGP, SIP, SNMP, and OSPF.
- Manage the network monitoring system (NMS), importing new devices and ensuring alerts are properly handled.
- Maintain deployed Gigabit Passive Optical Networks, configuring technology and related end‑user endpoints and performing scheduled upgrades.
- Maintain and update network documentation following ITIL change management practices.
- Manage the ticket queue, documenting and resolving reported issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor customer networks via the monitoring platform, verify alerts, and accurately identify customer impact.
- Dispatch technicians for network outages, escalating issues to vendor or engineering support as needed and coordinating across teams.
- Perform network maintenance, including Method of Procedure (MOP) writing and execution, while minimizing end‑user impact.
- Configure and accept network equipment for new service areas.
- Maintain critical network sparing inventory.
- Rapidly troubleshoot network outages/impairments, engaging other teams until resolution.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Understanding of a service provider or large enterprise network topology.
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Nokia or equivalent router/switches.
- Knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, ISIS.
- Familiarity with Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (G‑PON).
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting network devices via CLI.
- Understanding of network monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of Carrier‑Grade NAT (CG‑NAT).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Understanding of layer‑2 technologies.
- Experience in a structured environment with change control processes.
- Experience interacting with end‑users for troubleshooting home/business networks.
- Experience interacting with vendors for hardware repair or replacement.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, IP configuration, and Putty.
- Eager to learn new technologies.
- Strong understanding of the OSI model.
- Experience with Juniper router/switches.
- Knowledge of DZS/Zhone GPON platforms.
- Knowledge of Mikro Tik router/switches.
- Understanding of SIP.
- Linux/Server experience.
- Understanding of any transport network equipment.
