Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks a Dental Laboratory Technician as full-time staff for a new dental school in Joplin, Missouri. The College will serve patients across the lifespan in the four-state region, expanding access to dental care in this underserved rural area. The incumbent must be a motivated and engaged individual who is excited to help build an innovative and dynamic dental education program, educating the next generation of dentists.
The candidate should have a strong desire to support faculty, staff and students and must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning and discovery.
- Design, fabricate, and repair removable and fixed dental prostheses, including but not limited to full and partial dentures, crowns and bridges, mouth guards, orthodontic and other dental appliances.
- Assist clinical and preclinical faculty in student education.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), prescriptions, and instructions.
- Adhere to lab processes and procedures and industry standards.
- Keep detailed records, forms, logs and reports to document actions.
- Work with the Director of Simulation and the Dental Assistant Coordinator to maintain supply inventories and keep equipment in operating condition.
- Study, evaluate and redesign laboratory processes to improve quality of care.
- Stay up-to-date on advancements in the field of dental laboratory technician knowledge through continuing education, reading professional publications, talking with peers and networking with professional groups and forums.
- Manage supply inventories, perform routine equipment maintenance and facilitate repairs in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Operations, Director of Simulation, and the Dental Assistant Coordinator.
- Document workflow processes and adhere to industry regulations and safety standards.
- Exhibit the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, students, and staff.
- Demonstrate time‑management, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Education at the high school diploma or equivalent level; completion of an accredited dental laboratory technology program preferred.
- Minimum of two years of working experience in a commercial or academic dental lab.
- Technical knowledge of dental procedures, prescriptions and equipment.
- Advanced knowledge with common computer‑aided design (CAD) and computer‑aided manufacturing (CAM) acquisition, design and fabrication software such as ExoCAD, Planmeca and various nesting software.
- Advanced knowledge of common acquisition and design workflows.
- Ability to conduct tests and inspect products for quality and performance.
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and precision.
