Job Description SummaryWork involves direct care services that include conducting client centered comprehensive assessment, individual and group counseling and applying various therapeutic interventions. The employee exercises considerable professional initiative and judgment. Work is under the general review of an administrative superior, leaving considerable latitude for independent judgment and discretion in accordance with agency policies. They provide services to individuals impacted by a variety of behavioral health (substance use and mental health) issues, recognizing that the individuals we serve may have experienced trauma that affects their development and adjustment.
In addition, this position will deliver substance abuse treatment services to clients in accordance with the Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment model, to assist clients in their personal recovery process including addressing such clinical issues as overcoming denial, recognizing feelings and behavior, encouraging personal responsibility, and constructively using leisure time. Duties include the core functions of substance use counseling:
Screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, conducting individual and group counseling sessions, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, reporting and record keeping, and consultation. Conducts these services utilizing a motivational interviewing approach emphasizing a stage wise treatment approach that is non-confrontational in nature, has a gradual expectation of abstinence, and employs a harm reduction strategy. They demonstrate a warm and welcoming empathic, hopeful attitude, conveying a philosophy of dual recovery.
They will be trained in trauma-informed care and will work to help provide services in an environment that is sensitive and responsive which will prevent victimization, abuse, or trauma as a result of the care received.
- A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling from an accredited college or university is required. If physician, completion of requirements to practice medicine under Missouri state law.
- Minimum of two (2) years of work experience with transitional age youth with serious emotional disturbance in a community setting.
- Implements and coordinates clinical services in an assigned treatment program of small scope; monitors services to ensure that professional standards are maintained and services are delivered in accordance with legal and certification requirements, and agency policies.
- Develops, conducts, and monitors highly specialized treatment interventions for specific target populations; provides support to staff and clients in crisis or problem cases.
- Performs client centered comprehensive assessments to determine needed services for all clients; develops both initial and ongoing treatment plans; assigns the most appropriate staff to the individual treatment team.
- Participates in quality improvement process, administrative meetings, team meetings, in service training, client staffing and case reviews along with maintaining the on-call schedule.
- Attends multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings and provides information regarding client problems, progress, plans. Attends staff meetings, administrative meetings, and training, as required.
- Provides culturally sensitive, effective therapeutic services directed at treatment plan goals that include individual and group counseling, case management assistance, and information and education directed at addressing problems related to substance abuse.
- Assesses, monitors, evaluates and records client participation, progress, and adjustment against measurable recorded treatment goals in a timely manner. Writes reports, progress notes, discharge summaries and other client related data.

- Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator, and other office equipment as needed.
