TAMKO is seeking an Automation Engineering Technician for our High Street facility in Joplin, Missouri. The Automation Engineering Technician performs PLC and HMI changes, upgrades, troubleshooting, and new code development per the company standards. Also, supports and trains in troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and installation of control devices, instrumentation, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities
  • Creates, modifies, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs.
  • Advises and mentors instrumentation technicians on the repair, maintenance, and installation of instrumentation devices and controls systems to ensure continuous production operations.
  • Executes automation/controls related work for all equipment, instrumentation, HMIs, and PLCs to improve existing processes.
  • Assists in the development of preventive maintenance programs in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Analyzes operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Understands and follows all safety regulations and actively participates in plant safety programs.
  • Tests equipment for safety, performance, and efficiency. Uses analytical hand tools and/or measuring and recording devices.
  • Performs electrical and controls layouts, updates and creates electrical drawings in CAD or other electrical drawing software.
  • Commissions and tunes basic variable frequency, vector, and servo drives and can integrate drives into the PLC and HMI.
  • Trains on new systems and updates LOTO and SOP information.
  • Scopes and acquires automation/instrumentation devices and equipment for discontinued items.
  • Works overtime as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or at least one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to position himself/herself to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and/or maintain heavy plant equipment. This may require climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting and/or stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift or move heavier objects with assistance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work around moving mechanical parts, at elevated heights, where dusts and fumes could be present in the air, with or in proximity to chemicals, in hot environments, around electrical equipment, and in a loud environment. The employee must have the ability to understand and mitigate these and other risks, including by following all prescribed safety rules, and must have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, if necessary.
