Associate/Social Services Specialist (I/II/III)

Job Location: Joplin, Missouri.

Department: Department of Social Services – Children’s Division. The department partners with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth, and facilitate self‑sufficiency.

• Investigate reports of neglect, abuse, or exploitation of children.
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with partnering agencies that serve children and families.
• Assist families to attain and maintain stability through appropriate casework, home management, or referral to skilled counseling or treatment.
• Interact with law enforcement, juvenile officers, public officials, and community organizations regarding family and child issues.
• Represent the Children’s Division during court hearings and other meetings related to case work.
• Respond to the needs of children in their homes and throughout the community, providing transportation if needed.

Associate (I) –

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Four or more years of professional experience in protective services (casework, investigation of abuse or neglect, coordination of foster care, adoptions, family‑centered services, treatment/rehabilitation, in‑home family crisis intervention).
• Valid vehicle operator’s license.

Associate (II) –

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Five or more years of professional experience in protective services (same areas as above).
• Valid vehicle operator’s license.

Associate (III) –

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Six or more years of professional experience in protective services (same areas as above).
• Valid vehicle operator’s license.

OR

• College degree (Bachelor’s) from an accredited institution, preferably in Social Work or a comparable human services field.
• Substitutions allowed: 30 credit hours in related behavioral sciences equal one year of experience. Substitutions must represent at least 50% of the required experience.

• Ability to work a combination of evening and weekend shifts.
• Excellent problem‑solving, time‑management, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Availability to be on the on call rotation one weekend per month.
• Willingness to travel throughout Missouri as needed.
